The Walking Dead || The Day Will Come When You Won't Be

This will probably be the shortest recap I've ever done. I sat speechless through most of the episode. Here goes:

The first scene is the teaser we were given a few weeks ago ending with Rick being dragged into the RV by Negan. Then the camera pans down to a puddle of gore. I was on the edge of my seat. I literally felt like I was going to have a panic attack. So Negan takes Rick's axe from him and throws it, and him, into the middle of a herd. Of course our Rick fights his way out, not without some super goretastic elements like Rick jumping from the top of the RV and grabbing hold of a hanged man turned zombie. The body gives way and is literally ripped apart by the neck and Rick falls down into the crowd. Negan guns down enough of them to let Rick get out. He is waiting for Rick to retrieve the axe for him like some kind of animal. He is trying to break him. Rick makes his way back inside with the axe.

In the meantime flashbacks are going on. It's a good 20 minutes in before we finally find out. First down was Abraham, with a last good comeback SUCK MY NUTS! I am kind of ashamed that I am so relieved. I feel bad for the others, but I'm like whatever. Negan starts toying with them. He makes a move on Rosita and Daryl stands up and punches him. I thought he would kill Daryl. His men put Daryl back in line and he turns around and smacks Glenn out of nowhere. This is where I screamed out loud. as I'm sitting with my mouth agape as Glenn with a bashed skull and eyeball popped out of its socket struggles to get out the words, "Maggie, I will find you." Negan then finished the job. He stopped much sooner with Abraham. Glenn's head ended up being that pile of gore we have been staring at all this time. I really did not think I would care this much. When I'm taking notes for a recap I usually right pages and pages of things. Most doesn't get used, but still. This whole episode got 1 notebook page front and back.

After we are witness to that horrific event, Negan still doesn't think Rick is completely broken. He takes a marker and marks a line across Carl's arm and makes him lay on the ground. Everyone else has a gun to the back of their head. If Rick does not chop Carl's arm off then Negan will have his men kill everyone. Carl was so brave it was amazing. He was telling Rick "just do it, just do it" he raised the axe and Negan stopped him. THANK GOD!  I don't think I could have taken that too. All he wanted was to see Rick fall apart and he did. Negan's men take Daryl and leave the rest of them there. Maggie gets up ready to fight and Rick has to talk her down. They have an army, they will just kill them all there is nothing left to do.

Sasha steps up and says she will help Maggie get to Hilltop, then goes to Rosita and together they take Abraham's body. The part that broke me was when Maggie was trying to get Glenn's body and the other guys had to take over for her. It was heartbreaking. Lauren Cohan is amazing. They all laid everything they had right out there on the ground. It can only get better from here right? Glenn was my favorite. I'm still so upset. I'm still trying to process what happened. What is it going to be like without Maggie and Glenn, the hope of the show?
